The 2013 Mac Pro isn't the only member of the 4K Klub — 2013 MacBook Pro Retinas can too

You Mac pros don't need to wait for your Mac Pros to try 4K. The MacBook Pros can too, if you have one of the 2013 Retina models.

Here's Apple's KB article on the subject:

Quote:

The following Mac computers are capable of viewing 4K resolution via HDMI from Final Cut Pro X 10.1.

  • Mac Pro (Late 2013)
  • MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
  • MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)

The supported 4K resolutions are as follows. Note that not every 4K monitor will support both of these resolutions, and 4096 x 2160 is only supported via HDMI at 24fps.

  • 4096 x 2160
  • 3840 x 2160

Password problems :-(

Seems we have some password migration issues. And worse, the password reset emails are getting rejected as spam. Web hosting is so much fun.

I'm working on it. In the meantime, you can try to reach me at aaron -- at -- tekserve -- dot -- com.

Update: It appears that passwords didn't quite migrate as hoped. So you should instead use the Password Reset feature to set your password. Check your junk mail for the email...

Welcome to the NEW and IMPROVED Xsanity

Your eyes do not deceive you. Welcome to the NEW and IMPROVED Xsanity. We have a new platform, a new server, and plans for way more. Your logins should still work and all eight years of forum contact has been migrated (I think). Those front page stories from Geeklog haven't made the trip yet. It may take a more few weeks before that happens.

And we launched before the Mac Pro did. ;-)

And I have two people to thank.

One: Joel Samuel of /32 Consulting has provided the server and hosting. Little known fact: we'd been running on an Xserve G4 since our launch over eight years ago. Now, we're on some *cloud* server with a control panel and stuff. Not only is it fast, it actually will work. Now that's an improvement.

Two, and most importantly, Trevor "abstractrude" Carlson of Thumbwar — but better known as "that guy who knows more about Xsan than God" — was the number one proponent of modernizing Xsanity. Without his encouragement, we'd be still getting there, someday...

Reconfiguring Xsan question

Hey Xsanitians,

I’m looking for some advice on reconfiguring our Xsan storage setup.
We currently have a Vtrak E class with 16 2TB drives and another VTrak E class with 16 1TB drives with an attached J Class with 16 1TB drives.
We are looking to configure these to serve up a single Xsan volume that will be used for almost exclusively HD video content (students will be using Final Cut Pro X).
When configuring a new volume for HD video with Xsan admin it is recommended to use LUNs in multiples of 4 (in fact if you don’t then the Xsan configuration ‘wizard’ tells you that “For best performance, use multiples of 4 LUNs in each affinity that it used for data”)
Looking through the documentation ([url]http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1200/url) I don’t see a way to configure the available VTraks to have a number of LUNs that is a multiple of 4. Should I just go with [url]http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1160/url) for the 16 2TB Vtrak and [url]http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1163/url for the second VTrak and it’s expansion chassis?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as it is not often I get to work on Xsan configurations and I’m definitely feeling a bit rusty!!

Cheers

Paul

XSAN re-install on a Mavericks client.

I know XSAN is now part of the OS, but I really bunged up the config files of one of my XSAN clients running Mavericks. I used to be able to uninstall XSAN and reinstall and add the client back in. Can't do that now. I think I know the answer to this (re-install the OS) but how can I re-install just XSAN?

QLogic SanBox 9100 question

Forums:

I've got a Sanbox 9100 with (5) SB9004 - 4/2/1G blades in it and have run out of ports. I'm having a hard time sourcing out 4/2/1G blades but can come up with 8/4/2G SB9008 blades pretty easily. Anyone know if its kosher to pop those newer blades in to the 9100? I'm assuming it will work fine and that any ports I connect that have 8G at both ends will utilize it and it downscales otherwise???
