Apple has posted a new knowledge base article on configuring the Promise VTrak for optimal performance. The article demonstrates various configs with lots of nice pictures.

In addition Apple has posted another knowledge base article detailing how to create "Second SAS-connected Expansion Chassis Only" configuration scripts.

I finally got RAID Controllers and SAS-connected Expansion Chassis: Xsan (Metadata and Data) working. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1162 For some reason I just could NOT get this to work saving the Text file through Apple Text Edit. It wasn't until I used SERVICES to "Send Selection to Text Wrangler" from Safari and then Saved with a ".txt" extension that the complete setup worked. Hmm... I guess I also did some pruning out of "delta" characters (TABs, I suspect) in the coded out whitespace. Before it always got stuck on line 23, then I removed the first batch of Commented out text and it got stuck on line 63. Then I removed ALL the commented out text and it got stuck on line 6, as soon as it starts to make the first Data on the J unit. I'm not inclined to delete everything and throw the scientific method this right now, but maybe this info will be useful to others. Maybe. ;P
