Apple provides loaded pistol; you provide the foot.

Apple has posted a new shell script in the Knowledge Base to automatically reboot your old Metadata Controller in the event of an MDC failover. It uses Lights Out Management (known to the rest of the world as IPMI) to reboot even if you have total software failure. It seems like a carefully written script.

It also seems like a script that could turn small problems into seriously large problems. Please engage brain before using.

They posted/updated a few other xsan articles recently as well. Xsan: Some features are not supported with StorNext volumes, Xsan 1: Tips for avoiding unexpected hardware or performance issues, and Xsan 1: Tips to avoid unexpected admin or client behavior.

Admittedly, this is not exactly Quantum's STONITH. For a somewhat amusing
account of STONITH getting stoned (in the Stornext) context, see
