Xsan 2.2 is now available

It needed a bit of extra time on the oven, but Xsan 2.2 is now available for download. You can find it in several flavors:

Or you can just use Software Update. (I can't remember a release of the full installer like this before. It is certainly a nice touch.)

Make sure you update your metadata controllers before updating clients. To be safe, make a backup of your MDC's /Library/Filesystems/Xsan/Config folder. And don't go enabling extended attributes until everyone is running Xsan 2.2.

Dont use software update from 2.0 to 2.2!
Authored by: trezero on Tuesday, September 15 2009 @ 06:21 AM EDT
I just finished an install of XSAN that was very painfull all because of the
great help of Software Update. I have been installing xsan 2 with the 2.1.1
update for a little while so I had those files downloaded. After installing 2
systems at this new install, I realized that I still needed to download the 2.2
update each time. To save a few seconds I started just running software
update right after instaling the initial xsan 2 installer. THIS WAS A BIG
MISTAKE!. After many hours of troubleshooting everything else in the chain I
ended up finding out that if you install XSAN 2 and update straight to 2.2, via
Software Update, it will cause an unusual problem where the XSAN volume
sometimes wont mount and sometimes will but in disk utility it will never
show it having mounted and will consistently show 1 -3 disks that it sees as
being unformatted.

The fix is to uninstall XSAN 2 from the client system completely, and reinstall
xsan 2, then the 2.1.1 update, and then the 2.2 update. After doing this it
works fine.

I got the same exact results on 2 of 2 systems out of a 4 system xsan where
the other 2 systems had been installed that way anyways.

The first line in the release...

"The 2.2 update is recommended for all systems running Xsan 2."

OK, well make it compatible with all systems running XSan 2 then..

Anyhow... I'm wondering whether the XSan 2.2 admin update is compatible with
a xsan 2.1.1-based SAN. Basically, my SAN is stuck in 2.1.1-land due to a PPC
MDC that isn't getting replaced any time soon, and I would like to at least take
care of some of the bugs in the admin application.
