Archiware has released PresSTORE 4, a major update to its suite of backup, archive, and synchronization software. The new software has a long list of features, including:

• An entirely new interface, reorganizing every menu for a much more intuitive experience
• An iPhone app for monitoring your PresSTORE server and receiving alerts (storage full, etc.)
• Desktop Notification Service to bring more information to users and administrators
• Global log searching
• A common schedule for Synchronize, Backup and Archive

In addition, individual modules have also been improved. Synchronize now has a many-to-one mode, a one-click snapshot function, and includes full support for Xsan FS Events. The Backup module includes support for progressive backups (to consolidate multiple incrementals into a new full), tape redundancy, and point-in-time snapshots. Backup2Go can throttle by network or CPU load and perform end-to-end encryption. Finally, Archive now uses an plugin architecture for external preview generators, so data of almost any type can be previewed.

When will an upgrade to PresSTORE P4 be available?

With PresSTORE version 4.1, you will be able to upgrade your previous PresSTORE licenses. We plan to release version 4.1 in October 2010.

Why can't I upgrade to PresSTORE version 4.0?

PresSTORE 4.0 is a major release with many innovative changes. To maintain the reliability and quality of existing PresSTORE installations, it is necessary for PresSTORE P4 to mature in the field. This requires a number of new installations. New installations provide a good basis since they start small and grow in time. This way, PresSTORE can keep pace with the growing complexity and requirements. Any errors and problems with the software or the hardware can be detected and corrected in the process without impacting the overall stability.

Will the upgrade to PresSTORE 4.1 be free of charge?

The following installations will receive a free upgrade to version 4.1:

• All installations with a current Software Update Agreement.
• All customers who purchased PresSTORE on or after June 22, 2009.

Will I need new license keys for PresSTORE P4?

Yes, PresSTORE P4 requires new license keys. These will become available with the release of PresSTORE 4.1 in October.

If I do not upgrade, but rather replace my installation with a version 4, can I receive the license keys for PresSTORE P4 before October?

For logistical and technical reasons, new license keys for existing customers will only be available in October.
