Windows BSOD accessing smb shared Xsan volume

We are running couple Xsan 2.1.1 volumes. Whey are reshared over SMB to Windows workstations and servers.

Sometimes accessing the volumes from Windows Server 2003 gives a BSOD, however Windows XP works just fine.

I've checked Windows Event logs but they say nothing. This happens on different servers (Dell, HP, Supermicro) and with different network adapters. The only thing I know that it is only applicable to Windows Server 2003.

Hi Proton, same thing on a customer site of us, XP is running fine, XP64 is running permanently into BSOD. I assume you are using and Xserve (OS X Server) to rehshare the Volume.
The solution here was to use a Linux Server with StorNext FX to reshare the Volume. Since then no more failures or BSOD´s. Expensive but quick and stable solution...

Just ran into this issue, as well. Strangely only on XP64 when saving images from the web (not when using 3D apps, or anything like that).

The fix is pretty quick, just add the "[global] change notify = no” to your smb.conf file on your OSX Server running SAMBA.

im having this very same problem, no xsan involved however I have a windows xp 64 client accessing smb shares on 10.5.8 server.

Occasionally opening excel documents the client freezes and you have to power off.

I made the changes that apple suggest but it seems to have no effect. Has anyone else tried this and got it to work and if so did you do anything different to what was in the apple kb documentation.

Any advice would be appreciated.
