I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with lmdd, but it's a great tool for benchmarking streaming performance on an Xsan (or other filesystem). I've written a brief introduction to lmdd if you'd like to check it out.

If you want to give it a shot but don't want to spend the time compiling it, I do have a build for 10.5 Intel machines. Let me know if you're interested.

Dave,

I would love to try it out. Do you have the compiled build available on FTP?

Sure. Here's the lmdd executable. It definitely only works on Intel and it probably only works in 10.5. It's very easy to compile it for another OS X version or architecture if you have the developer tools. Just get the source and follow the instructions inside.
