Hi
I was curious if 1.4.2 fixes the problem where folder names get corrupted when creating new folders?
Currently have xsan version 1.4 running on PPC with about 7 Intel clients.
Thanks!

I finally bit the bullet on this one down in SoHo.

I did so because I had observed the file/folder disappearances on Intel clients that have plagued quite a few of us. Matt Gellar mentioned here in the forums that this problem seems to have been resolved with the 1.4.2 update, but the fellas at AppleCare told me that the problem was instead in the OS, resolved with 10.4.11. I haven't found anything online that supports that second claim.

At any rate, I updated both Xsan and the OS to current, without disastrous consequences. One unintended result -- one of my SAN clients shares the SAN out via afp and smb, and this update process broke Kerberos there. End users accessing the shares there have to key in passwords for now. Not a show stopper, but an annoyance I intend to resolve in time. Not sure exactly which update is culpable at present.

One additional note on the cvfsck follow-up step -- Apple told me that if I run it with the -n (read only) flag and don't get any indication of trouble to resolve, then I don't need to run it with the -w flag after the update.

I had a trouble with the servers ping ponging the running of the volumes at a rate of about once per second.

It was a ICB mismatch between the two servers, so the whole reconfigure and promote of the backup MDC fixed it.

We are having failover from one MDC to another after the 1.4.2 upgrade. We are on 10.4.10

Has anyone else seen this and have a fix?

Thanks

Check that, we are on 10.4.10.

I can confirm this. More at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1269754
