My biggest problem with Final Cut Server is that when a user checks a project file back into FCS, that file also remains on the user's desktop. I think this is a major fault that renders FCS unusable in my opinion.
Does anyone know of a solution that deletes the file from the user's computer when it is checked back into FCServer?
To explain myself further:
1) User logs into FCS and checks out a final cut pro project.
2) Project file is copied onto the user's desktop.
3) User edits, makes changes and then checks project file back into FCS.
*But mentioned final cut pro project file also remains on the user's computer. This is what I want to get rid of. |

I don't like that either. Early on, we had problems with FCS getting gummed up and then when a user tried to check a project back in, the project wouldn't actually check in. This led to mass confusion about which project was the most recent project - san or local...
We tried directing the project files to a different place than the desktop which didn't really help either.
This won't be for everybody, but I like it as a solution:
If you don't need FCS to keep versions on check in, then maybe you can setup the area that you keep your projects in as an edit in place device. Have FCS run a response scan of that project share to catalog all the projects. Then just use FCS to search, lock/unlock projects and drag and drop the project icon from FCS onto the FCP icon in the dock to open.
This wasn't the exact intended use of FCS, but it gets around that mess on the desktop. I also keep "versions" of our projects using time machine anyway...
by the way there is some useful info in this http://www.xsanity.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=24763#24763. |
