|
|
Dear All,
We are looking for solution for a large scale of data.
We were thinking of backing up or Tape library to a Digital one for fast access, we are talking about 5000 hours of HD uncompressed format.
While I'm looking around in 100 Apple Xserve Raids to be connected all to 2 Xserves with Xsan.
Does anyone have a better solution?
Please advise |

| I dnt see Xsan as a complete solution. You need to take backup of Xsan onto a tape library. Take a look at Quantum Tape backup solution. |

Xsan is not a complete solution which is why a product like MatrixStore is both necessary and appropriate. Tape is not. |

Check out running stornext on your MDC's and using their storage management. I'll bet Matty G could offer thoughts on that. I've not seen it in the field but I recently looked into it for a client storing their uncompressed HD footage on tape.
http://www.quantum.com/products/software/stornext/index.aspx
In the end, the client decided to get a Scalar 50, load it up with 38 LTO-3 tapes and keep that until it fills and then expand the library. (their whole xsan is only 7TB or so)
I'm still looking for a better way to take media off of a SAN, without friggin' retrospect or other manual solutions, that costs less than six figures. |
