There is currently an issue with resharing SAN volumes to Windows users that affects the usibility of the FORK Windows client.

In short, QuickTime movies that reference pieces of other movies open so slow via an OSX SMB/NFS reshare as to mak ethe cleint ususable. The same effect can be seen in QT player.

When making proxy of a currently ingesting source, FORK is writing 30 second "chunks" and sitching them together by updating a small wrapper movie, so it is affected by this problem.

The (hopefully) temporary solution is to run a Windows 2003 Server ADIC attached server to reshare the SAN volume to Windows desktops. This is currently our SOP when asked to spec out a system that requires Windows cleints.

We are sharing XSAN FS with Stornext FX on XSAN 1.4.2 for 50+ Windows Client for Video browsing on Fork Client. You may want to try Mac Mini running on WinXP if this will work for you.
