Howdy folks,
I'm attempting to configure a fibre channel switch (Qlogic SANbox 5602) but I'm unable to type anything into the Admin name and password fields when connecting to it. Qlogic support seems to think this is a Java incompatibility, but I wanted to run it by the forums first to see if anyone has experience with this.
If it is in fact a Java incompatibility, does anyone have any recommendations for rolling back to a prior version on a Mac? I'm not able to type credentials in using any browser (chrome, camino, firefox, etc) |

Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard ships with Java 1.6, but does not include the older versions (1.4.2 and 1.5) that were available under Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard. Unfortunately, some Java applications are not able to run properly in the newer version of Java.
It is possible to install the older versions of Java in Snow Leopard and a few people have reported success with this unsupported configuration:
Mac OS X Hints – 10.6: Re-enable Java 1.4.2 and Java 1.5 apps in Snow Leopard
Another option is to load a computer with Mac OS X v10.5 so that you can access the switch and then upgrade the firmware.
QLogic Driver Download – FC SWITCH – QLogic 5600
Our QLogic 5802Vs are at firmware version 7.4.0.16 and they work fine with the Java 1.6 included with Snow Leopard.
Please note that if you presently have version 5.x firmware, upgrading to 7.4.0.16 will replace SANsurfer Switch Manager with the less helpful QuickTools.

Brian, thanks so much for the informative reply. I am used to and much prefer SANsurfer over QuickTools.
I installed 10.5 on a drive partition and downloaded Firefox 2, this got me in and I was able to set up the fabric. Thanks again.

| Meix, I encountered this behavior with Firefox 3.5.x on OS X 10.5.8. My solution was to simply connect through Safari, whose Java Interface consistently allowed me to type my login info. |
