Is FCS useful for storing other types of assets for example word docs and pdf's basically as a sort of doc management solution?

Thanks in Advance

It can store other types of assets for sure, but if it is useful depends on your needs Wink

Here is a list of supported formats (other than audio and video):
Quote:

File Format Support (Scanning)

* Final Cut Studio applications
o Final Cut Pro projects (.fcp)
o Soundtrack Pro project and audio files (.stap and .stmp)
o Motion projects (.motn)
o DVD Studio Pro projects (.dspproj)
* iWork applications
o Pages
o Numbers
o Keynote
* Other document formats
o Final Cut Server catalogs virtually any document type, including Microsoft Office files. It provides a generic icon in the catalog for document types it does not have default icons for.

Me personally would rather use something like evernote for documents. And use Final cut server where it really shines, media managment.

My understanding was that evernote is for individual users and my boss swears by it. But I'm looking for a solution for 50 users.

But what I'm really getting at is does it work well as a doc management solution? From the specs it sounds like a yes but ideally I would like a confirmation from someone using it as such.

Also another question what advantages is it giving me over a spotlight searchable network drive.

Sorry for all the question but FCS is something I have no experience of.

Best use case: Images, Image Sequences, FCP Project files, Video.

Random other file formats can be imported and support versioning, and user access controls. But you're not getting a whole lot more. If that is enough then go for it.
