Partial Media File Restore

Hi,

Having trawled various archive/backup/nearline solutions at NAB we have got to thinking about some cool features which are in some other solutions (Diva, for example) that could help on our bigger events (two plus week tournaments etc).

Sending data from our EVS IPDirector network to archive via PresStor/LTO4 and having the ability call a PORTION of a mediafile back from the archive rather than an entire clip would enable us to keep less popular files on LTO4 only, reducing the need for such a big SAN on which to keep the entire tournament's media...

I wonder if anyone has any insight into how we could achieve this using PresStor now or in the future.

It would require some file-based co-operation between IPDirector and PresStor in terms of an XML transaction which mark the file and portions of it to be retrieved ...

Is this something which is in the pipeline for PresStor as yet?

Hi Charlietear

I am going to take a stab in the dark here and guess that you mean football. Having dealt with several different football scenarios using apple kit in the last few years. If you start with one match and try to work from there you make things interesting.

If on the other hand you start with a match then as its being captured or strait after you log it and create new clips of each of your events then suddenly life can become allot simpler. Cataloging becomes easier, archiving and retrieval is easy. All because you no longer need a huge file for a 30's goal.

I apologize if by assumptions are wrong but football is on the brain and looking forward to kickoff next week.

Sorry, this is not possible and there is nothing of the kind in the pipeline.

I second the suggestion that a bit of "pre-processing" of your material may simplify the task later on.

Technically, this is quite a challenge, but it could be done. However, yours is the first such request ever.

We looked at something simalar but didnt get anywhere with it, IPD is not easy and the API was useless, EVS really needs to open stuff up but i think they will with Xedio
