Hi guys

We’ve been struggling with Final Cut Server for about two weeks. I am using the supplied Example Workflow document to no avail and I’m pretty sure there is even a misprint in the ‘setting up the ingest workflow section’!

All we want to do is to ingest some 5D footage into FCS and have it create a production containing our assets whilst keeping the ‘Log and Transfer’ metadata.

This is our workflow:
-Copy 5D cards to desktop.
-Use FCP to ‘Log and Transfer’ the 5D files as Apple Prores from the local machine(with the help of Canon’s FCP L&T plugin). The Capture Scratch for this transfer operation is on our network RAID inside a device called ‘INGEST’. Typically the path for a transferred asset would be:

INGEST/ingest folder/capture scratch/testproject/MVI_X.mov

-Using a Scan Production response scheduled to scan the INGEST device every 5 minutes, FCS ingests the assets to its catalogue.

The problem is that, although FCS appears to ingest the assets (creating proxies and thumbnails etc) almost always the Metadata fields for the ‘log and capture’ in each asset window are blank. Sometimes when i’ve been testing FCS doesn't even create a production to tie them too.

I have the ‘Response’ configured which includes the following:

Production Metadata: Package
*Title [3]
Scan Metadata:
*Production depth: 1

I am using the ‘Media’ (pa_asset_media) metadata set, with the ‘FCP Log and Transfer’ Md group added in.

What is really strange is that sometimes the last asset of an ingested batch appears to have it’s metadata intact - where as the others do not.

Does anyone know what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance
Dan

Does this occur when doing only one asset?
The fact that some metadata comes in on the last asset seems odd.

Did you do any custom Metadata mapping in FinalCutServer administration?

Is it possible that the field from the D5 footage after conversion needs to be "mapped" to the actual fields you need it in?

Thanks,

I've not done any mapping. Not quite sure about mapping so I will look into doing it.

It seems to occur randomly wether I ingest only one asset or a batch.

I have just ingested about 20 clips and only two are missing metadata!

bizarre!

thanks
Dan
