I was given the task of reconfiguring a Promise Vtrak E610f and a Vtrak E310f that were previously part of an XSAN. They will now be local storage to an Xserve for file sharing. The customer does not know the login or password or IP addresses of the units. They are not the defaults. I cannot get into them via telnet or serial port or WebPram without the info. Is there any way to reset defaults so I can reconfigure them?
I do not need any data on them, so not worried about data loss. |

This is something that Promise says can only be handled by their tech support.

They basically give you a firmware file (confuser.img), have you boot the unit to the IBL RAM prompt and TFTP it to your unit through CLI to flash it. There may be another method; I would ask their support if there's a simpler way.
If you do manage to get the Confuser.img file from them, here are the instructions:
Resetting Vtrak Username/Password Thru CLI
Please try to conduct the evolution during your maintenance downtime to avoid data corruption. Note: It is important to shut down and disconnect drives from the vtrak to avoid any potential data loss during the flash process
1. You will need to have TFTP software installed on the host system to facilitate the flash. Be sure that such software is installed on you host
2. Download and put the confuser.img file on the root folder of your TFTP program (note: be sure to use the corresponding confuser img file for the appropriate model Vtrak subsystem)
3. Connect to the VTrak controller via serial connection at COM1
· You will need to HyperTerminal or similar program to log in your vtrak at the cli level be sure you have the configuration Hyperterminal set up.
Baud Rate:115200
Data bits 8
Parity N
Stop Bit 1
No flow control
4. When the HyperTerminal is configured open the window and power up the Vtrak
5. During the boot up pres CTRL+C several times until you get to the IBL RAM > prompt
6. At the IBL ROM prompt, type the following command in the follwing format:
ptiflash –t –h <TFTP Server IP> -f <File name of firmware>
Example: ptiflash –t –h 192.168.1.1 –f confuser.img
7. Once the confuser flash is completed the Vtrak username/ password will be reset to default |

From Promise:
Please open a CRM case via https://support.promise.com
Specify what firmware version you have running. You can look it up via the serial prompt as the vtrak controller (either controller) comes up. Support will then upload the respective "confuser.img" file to your CRM case. From there simply follow the instructions.
BTW the default login and password (just to be sure):
Login: administrator
Password: password
Lastly for those of you using X30 series vtrak products that need the password reset:
