Hello. I've been trying to find some information for the past hour regarding current issues related to XSan 2.2(or .3) and 10.7. I'm mainly looking for anything that might cause us problems. I already know about the Active Directory issues some folks are seeing. Here is the hardware/software:

Current Hardware:
10.5.7 Mac Pros with dual Quad-Core & 12Gb of ram
10.6.1 Mac Pros with dual Quad-Core & 16Gb of ram
10.7.0 Mac Pros with dual Hexa-Core & 32Gb of ram
KONA LHe Capture cards w/ AJA ControlPanel 6.0.3
PDW-U1 XDcam Disk Drives (USB) w/ XDCAM Transfer 2.12.0
Elgato Turbo.264 HD

Current Software:
Final Cut Studio 7 on all machines (No FCPX)
Adobe CS4 Products (Photoshop, After Effects, etc)
XDCAM Transfer software
Aja ControlPanel software

For some background, our current environment is xsan 2.1 & 10.5.7. We bought two new mac pros with 10.6.1 about 6 months and and are in the process of purchasing two new mac pros that are going to come with 10.7. All four of the new Mac Pros need to be up and running on our XSan soon. (Major projects coming up) We purchased 10.7 licenses for all our current Mac Pros but have been holding off hoping 10.7.1 would release.

That said, since my back is against a wall with the clock counting down and it looks like my only option is to upgrade our MDCs to 10.7 and Xsan 2.3. I'm just wondering if i should also go ahead and upgrade our current Mac Pros to 10.7 and 2.3 as well and just get ALL our machines on the same OS and XSAN version. I just don't want to run into any major problems that other folks have already run into.

Thanks again for any suggestions!

I think my only issue is that we already bought 10.7 licenses. We'd have to go back and buy 10.6 licenses as well. My hope was to use 10.7 unless there were any known problems. I'd also like to just get it over with now rather than upgrade everything now and then have to do it all over again in 6 months to a year.

But like i said, if there are known problems i suppose we could explore the 10.6 route.

Personally I would stick true and firm on 10.6.8 for the time being!

I would stay within the 10.6 ream. My environment is running OSX 10.6.8 & Xsan 2.2.1.

Lion (10.7) & Xsan 2.2.2 is too new (for me anyways) to fully migrate over then potentially getting smacked with bugs. My advice is to stick with Snow Leopard for awhile.

How about upgrading all of your gear to just 10.6.8/Xsan 2.3 or 10.6.8/stay with 2.1 & save the 10.7 for a later date?

As for the two Mac Pros you're purchasing, you could always just erase their hard drives & just install/image them to 10.6.

Lion (10.7) is still too new for my liking & waiting for more of the community to adopt the new O/S. Better to have a safe Xsan than a problematic one.

In my area, I am running OSX 10.6.8/Xsan 2.2.1. It's been such for a few months now & no issues. Holding off on 10.7 until my environment requires it.

One reason to upgrade to 10.7 is it will save you a bundle on licensing (10.6 Server = $500, + new XSAN client licenses if needed).

I'm still running 10.5 on my MDCs (works fine with 10.6.8 clients, even though it's not recommended), but hoping to jump straight to 10.7 (or nearly straight).

What are the major issues with 10.7 at this point? Abs, you have been using it for testing etc, any major holdups?

I am hoping to move to 10.7 sometime early next year if all things look good.

Note: Xsan 2.3 is only in Lion.

Why aren't you running 2.2.2?

I was wondering if anyone was actually running 10.7 and Xsan 2.3 and if so how is it working? Are there any troubles that have actually occurred?

Thanks! Very Happy

I had a working fine, ending up downgrading to 10.6 though for unrelated reasons.

I'm in a situation where i must upgrade my MDCs to Lion in order to mount some MacBook Pro Lion client coming with Lion by default (also my customer is happy for the free Xsan client coming with Lion of course).

There are any problems upgrading from 10.6.8 server to 10.7.1 server?

My MDCs are really basics (only MDC, AFP and SMB services are running, there are no OD, and DNS is hosted on a separated windows 2008 R2 server)
I will have mixed client 10.7.1 and 10.6.8. Do all i need is to upgrade xsan to 2.2.2 on snow leopard clients to keep compatibility?

Thank you very much for your time

Why downgrade if all was well? I want to upgrade but need input on those who have run it and if you had to go backwards, I am just a bit curious if anything I am doing might not allow us to go to the Lion OS.

Thanks,
Mystic

Ahh, yes, forgot that 2.3 is only available on Lion.

As for not upgrading to 2.2.2, I've also been the kinda tech that believes "if it aint broke, don't fix it". I could upgrade, but my environment has been so stable.

I will probably just upgrade when I switch things to Lion.

Does anybody know if it's worth upgrading now that 10.7.2 is out and the LDAP bug has (finally) been fixed?
