Just head of Strawberry - from Flavorsys:

Does an interesting file level hiding/unhiding of media on shared storage. Works with FCP, Avid and others.

I guess they are working with Rorke Data too.

I just helped out with a Strawberry install and it is very different from Final Cut Server.

It is an amazing solution for Avid users (mac or pc) who want to open multiple projects, share projects with other editors and work in organized teams...

The origins of Strawberry are from a Berlin TV station.

I think it's still a new solution which is showing lots of potential.

It doesn't transcode media, it doesn't store the media for you, it doesn't have proxy or thumbnails. It's not Final Cut Server.

Strawberry shares projects, and lets you open other ppl projects read only. And that it does well.

Here are some potential alternatives to Final Cut Server that I found at the recently held Broadcast Expo in London. I don't recommend, I don't not recommend and I have no in depth knowledge of any of them. As my organisation is exploring what we might replace Final Cut Server with I thought it might be helpful to share what I found.

Andre Aulich has a good article on this topic and a short list of suggestions, as well:

Notably he mentions:

Cantemo MediaBox,
FlavourSys Strawberry and
SquareBox CatDV

Cantemo MediaBox was renamed. It is now Cantemo Portal (the same name as their enterprise version).

Both Andre Aulich and Matt Geller are working Portal now. Seems very promising. No, Portal is not Final Cut Server. But it has many useful features, and it is enterprise friendly (server room and IT friendly).

It doesn't do project sharing, at least not yet. For that feature check out strawberry or focal point server.

It does integrate with Premiere, FCP 7 and FCP X. It works in a web browser. It is SAN friendly.

Andre Aulich has written supported apps for migrating Final Cut Server, and integrating with Archiware PresSTORE. Pretty cool.
