Hey guys/gals

Our primary MDC died an unceremonius death yesterday. Our XSAN is running fine off of the secondary MDC for now, and I'm busying myself with rebuilding MDC1.

I'm wondering, though- after I have DNS and OD configured on our new MDC1, is it simply a matter of installing XSAN Admin on the machine and connecting it to the existing XSAN? That seems like it should be the case, but I'm paranoid about somehow accidentally wiping the config if I do that.

Thanks!

In my experience, it's easy.

Only install XSAN in the MDC1 (dead one) and one you finish installation, from MDC2 add the new server as a controller and that's it, dead simple. Smile

When you say DNS, is that Bind or you mean configuring your IPv4 (with IPv6 off) and what not?

You have to make sure you're on the ball if you want the MDC resuming it's previous IP position etc. This would mean removing it from the OD/Xsan configuration before bringing it back up, or it may imply that OD/Xsan on the currently BMDC (which took over) thinks the MDC knows it's role, when it doesn't...

Or something like that (think it through a bit). I'll admit I just saw this moments before heading to bed after a long day kicking an old FBNX box which has 2 drive failures in the last 3 days, which the client doesn't back up and is in the middle of a project.

easiest way to do this is as following. on your remaining san controller remove the first MDC. re add as controller.
