Is there any way of monitoring user activity especially related to file creation, deletion or editing by any "default feature/utility" of Apple OS X or other software.

this is an interesting question. on a single machine yes. using the dtrace tools but I havent seen software for monitoring all users. what are you trying to do. have you though about using permissions to make sure people play fair?
