Hi,

We currently have an older Xsan setup. MDCs are G5 Xserves running 10.5.8, clients are running 10.6.8, the storage is Apple XRAID. We are looking to upgrade the MDCs to Mac Mini running 10.8 with Promise x30. What would be the best way to upgrade? For the least downtime I would think adding the Mac Minis as failover controllers and add the Promise as a separate volume, transfer files over, then cut out the old MDCs and the XRAID volumes. Would this process have any side effects?

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hi,

Your setup now is not supported/recommended. MDC's must always have the same or higher OS/Xsan versions than the clients... That one thing I want to say.

What I should do in your situation is build a new volumes with all your new hardware/software and copy the data.
