We recently destroyed our XSAN volume with a sudden power loss. We've tried all to fix and repair, and at this point we just want to wipe the drives and start over.

Is the a step-by-step for recreating the volume so that we can relaunch XSAN Admin and have a new fresh place to put our files?

We have two metadata controllers and five XSAN workstations. After the power crash, and our attempts to repair the volume, all we get are pin wheels and unresponsive machines that are trying to connect to the volume. The is nothing we can do to even launch XSAN Admin, and there is nothing to unmount or stop. When we reboot the machines, I may get the mounted volume icon for the volume, but if we try to launch, we get pinwheels and the machines become unresponsive. If we diconnect the metadata ethernet link, we can function on the workstations just fine. When we reconnect the metadata links, it all goes back to pinwheels.

How can we wipe it all out and start over?

The easy way is to "Uninstall Xsan" on the MDC's - and then reinstall - if you don't need to remake any luns.

But you may still have a chance of recovery, i would check out the network cables make sure you don't have any of the metadata and public lan swapped.

@ MattZ,

Thanks for the reply. When the power failed and rebooted everything, we kept getting pinwheels. We tried all of the repair commands on the volume and it finally told us that we needed to contact Tech Support. We had not disconnected any of the cables at that time, so I'm fairly certain that we didn't swap any by mistake.

Any steps on rebuilding?
