|
|
I just bought a new XSR half-full of big drives. I'm about to set it up as an Xsan volume, and I'd like to copy my 3 TB of data onto its new disks from my old XSR (also an Xsan volume).
What tool would be best for this task? cp doesn't continue gracefully if it runs into trouble on a particular file; rsync takes forever; Carbon Copy Cloner doesn't seem appropriate, especially since I'd like the source volume to remain available while I'm copying. Any other ideas?
Both volumes will be mounted on the same machine for the copying task, so network bandwidth/latency isn't a concern.
Thanks! |

| cvcp is the stornext/xsan copier, it will probably be best. Check out the man page for details on it. It has an update flag in case it craps out and you want it to start where it left off. |

I would use ditto.
But Apple suggest cp, or The Finder (gasp!)
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306108
When copying media files between Xsan volumes, it's important that both the file and its extended attributes be transferred to the destination volume. Xsan volumes store extended attributes in AppleDouble files, which are not visible in the Finder.
Copy media files in one of these ways:
Use the Finder (drag and drop).
Use the command line command cp (run man cp to learn more). |

Rsync does reserve resource forks. So no worries there.
I'd say use cvcpSync offcourse |
