Is this normal?

Could it be because the group in question (wheel) doesn't exist on the computer I'm running this command on?

wheel (group 0) exists on all unix machines. This is the standard group assignment when first creating an Xsan. You'll want to change it usually to something more relevant. Xsan uses group inheritance, so if you change the group assignment of the volume itself, then folders created within the volume from then on should get that group assignment.

Matt-

well that explains the 0 in the GID column- I thought it was telling me there was no group associated with the files.

So to change the group of the entire volume, would I run a chown recursively?
