I have started to compile a complete building plan on how to put together an open filer system that can be used well with XSan. I have built half a dozen of them so far, so slowly know how to do it. Check it out! I hope some of you guys might find this helpful.

| I read your recent update about using SSD drives for metadata. Just thought you should know/add that if the SSDs aren't enterprise class they'll burn up in a couple of weeks because the mdcs read the arbitration block like 2 times a second. |

| NAND reads do not cause wear, only writes and garbage collection eat cells. eMLC or SLC SSDs are still a much safer bet for MDJ LUNs though. |

I'm glad that somebody has actually looked at what i wrote .
So far my SSDs have been in action for around 4 months without problems. Those are standard SSDs. But my SAN volumes are mostly used for archiving so activity is rather low.
Thanks anyway for the feedback, I'll keep it in mind. |

I miswrote. Should have written "mdcs read/write the arbitration block like 2 times a second". Perils of posting on the iPhone. |
