Ok, I haven't updated the MDCs forever and want to make sure I'm doing it correctly.

The MDCs are 10.6.8 and 2.2.1. It looks like most of the clients have had the users update to 2.2.2 ahead of the MDCs and this hopefully is what is causing some flakiness.

To update, I can just simply update the backup MDC, then failover and update the primary MDC, then failover again, right?

Any issues I need to be aware of? Thanks.

Bill

That sounds right.

I usually failover to the backup first and update the master.
(Just to be sure failover is working smoothly. No failover surprises after the 1st update.)
Then fail back to master
Then update the backup

If you're staying at 10.6.8 and just updating Xsan, it will be very smooth.

I usually Carbon copy clone the server OSs before any updates just to be sure.

Onward and upward!
