I am finding that alot of SAN's which are out being installed are not getting IO Stream Guard turned on or Zoning is not being done depending on the Model of the Switch.

Symptoms of RSCN are that when a machine reboots it can cause other machines to hang or drop frames or to even Kernel Panic.

IOStream Guard is a feature in QLogic's switches, brocade also have this option for RSCN suppression without the need for Strict Zones to be created, however it is enabled via the Terminal not via the Web Interface.

We found a bug in a version of Brocade's firmware which was if RSCN and Zoning was done you still would get RSCN LIPs across multipul switches which were dual connect clients.

1.4 of XSAN was reported to fix this however it still suffers from RSCN.

When configuring IOStream Guard i have seen in the past that if Device Scan in the Settings of the Ports is still enabled you can still suffer from this.

Hi,

Somethign I forgot to mention is that with the Brodcade Switches you can enable RSCN suppression like with the QLogic Switches.

You have to do this using the PORTCFG command from a shell session to the switch not from the switch its self.

If you need more info on this please contact me.
