I'm in the process of migrating my Xserves and Xserve RAIDs from I guess what could be considered a one to one configuration to a one to many. We have been running the XServe RAIDs connected into the FC connector on the Xserve and then managing the shares out from each RAID partition. I'm down to having just the home directories and a few shares left on the RAID configuration connected into a single Xserve and want to move them into the Xsan that can be accessed by all the Xserves (for creating fail-overs and shared networking paths).
Over the weekend when I had some scheduled downtime I unmounted the home directory share on one of the RAID volumes and plugged it into one half of a FC connection on an XServe. I then plugged the other FC connector into the Xsan (going through a Qlogic FC switch). I was able to mount all the volumes necessary so that I could drag-copy the home directory folder from the RAID to the Xsan.
Copying went well - however when it was complete I can only see the Home Directory folder in the GUI - if I use the CLI I can see all of the individual home directories.
So after you've read this far, my question is, am I having a permissions problem that I can't see below the highest level of the HomeDirs? Or is there something else I should be doing?
Also, is this the best way to be doing this? I could use the CLI if I have to, but since I'm a GUI based person to start with it was easier to at least try it this way.
TIA for any assistance.
