We cannot get compressor to launch on an xserve without a monitor attached. Some have suggested hooking up a mini-display to DVI adapter that will cause the video card to be recognized during boot but that does not work. Does anyone have any suggestions or will any installs of Compressor require a monitor?
Xserve Early 2009
Thanks for any info!

| You will need to add the mini-dvi display adapter then uninstall/reinstall compressor. I've run into this several times, simply adding the adapter then reboot never fixed it for me. |

Compressor runs if booted with a monitor attached. Are you saying that if I uninstall/reinstall with the adapter that it will work with the adapter installed in the future?
I also found this

Has anyone had luck using a KVM attached?
Thanks,

The cheapest way is to buy a mini dvi adapter to vga and then trick the vga with 3x 75 Ohm resistors so that it thinks it has a display.
We have it on our Xserve, works like a charm.

| Hooloovoo, thanks! That's just the kind of solution I was looking for. Off to Radio Shack! |

You're welcome!
I didn't even solder them put just bended the pins double and stuck them in the right holes of the adapter. Then tested, then secured with my favorite tool: sticky tape
But of course you can also take a male DB15 plug and solder the resistors on the inside and tuck it away neatly... |

| I manage several Xserve (10.6.3) with Compressor installed and have no problem launching it from ARD with or without an attached display. Are you using ScreenSharing? |
