|
|
Hi All,
First time poster here. -- Wish I was starting off with a contribution to the forum rather than a question, but...
We've got a an Xsan setup here where each workstation has 2 ethernet connections. 1 ethernet connection is to a private lan for metadata only. The other ethernet connection is to our internal office lan which provides internet access, printers, etc. to each Xsan workstation.
My question is this: Can I move one of the workstations to a separate internal office lan? I'd like to give one of the workstations access to a dedicated high speed broadband line for big media uploads over the internet. The ethernet connection to the metadata lan would remain untouched. I'd only be moving this workstation off of the internal office lan that the whole office shares.
Is there any reason this would be a bad idea? As I understand it ALL Xsan related traffic goes over fiber and the dedicated metadata ethernet line. Is this correct?
Thanks in advance for all your help!!! |

Yes, I think your plan will work.
But you may be able to accomplish your goal with a single public network. Just set a new default gateway for the computers you want on the high-speed link. _________________ Aaron Freimark

Thanks Aaron. -- I hadn't thought about the default gateway. Good idea. Nevertheless, I'm glad to hear that my plan is not "technically" incompatible with the way Xsan works. |
