How current is the Defrag utility?

Ok so how current is the Xsanity defrag utility what versions of XSan is it compatible with?

I am just a lazy newbie with an output deadline looking for an easy way out of working in command line.

I'm afraid it is outdated at this point. Besides, you don't want to defrag the entire volume, which as I recall, is what the GUI attempts to do.

Is there a command line which allows me to see a listing of the directories and their paths? I have never worked in SNFS and I am quite frankly confused about how to enter the paths to the directories that I want to defrag. Not to mention a little scared about treading into areas I know so little about. I cannot afford to end up posting a horror story here.

Firstly, read the article I wrote about snfsdefrag so you can familiarize yourself with it. (Remember, rule #1 when using an online forum is search and read before you post.)

My loving suggestion is to grab a pal who knows more about CLI and unix pathing to help out.

I really appreciate all the help I am getting here, and I should have mentioned that in my post. I have read the articles on dealing with defrag, and the explanation of snfsdefrag commands and swithces. I understand the concepts behind what you have written, applying them to my setup and translating the syntax is where I am getting stuck. I really don't mean to piss anyone off by being redundant.

Again thank you,

Francis
